Expert Medicine were originally formed in 1997 by
Alex Zabaras on guitar and Babis Kourtaras on
bass.
Their sound started to change with the arrival
of Andreas Siourounis on drums, Jennie Kapadai
on vocals and DJ Everlast (of FF.C.) on decks,
in 2001, 2002 and 2004 respectively.

Expert
Medicine write their lyrics in English. The
combination of electric and acoustic instruments
with samplers and decks is characteristic of
their sound, as well as the use of loops taken
from cinematic themes and songs of the sixties
and seventies. The band’s influences range from
funk and acid-jazz to pop, freestyle and
hip-hop. They sort of flirt with the atmosphere
of Bristol’s trip-hop scene, giving it a
definite dance twist. Up to this day, Expert
Medicine have performed live at several music
venues and open air festivals in Athens.
These include opening for Arto Lindsay (House Of
Art, 11.2004), a joint live gig with The
Herbaliser (club22, 3.2005), the opening act at
the 1st Ejekt Festival - featuring The Chemical
Brothers as headliners (Athens Olympic Venues,
6.2005), and the performances at Vavel Comics
Festival (Technopolis, 9.2004), at the European
Music Day Festival (Kotzia sq., 6.2004 and
Klafthmonos sq., 6.2005) and at Synch Festival (Lavrio,
7.2006). Expert Medicine are essentially a
creative collective of people who employ a
fusion of sound and vision as their creative
means. Their gigs always include visual
projections of video art and loops created and
manipulated live by Spyros Papadoulakis. Yiannis
Petris, along with the members of the band, are
in charge of art direction while Akis
Paschalakis and Yiannis Skandamis are in charge
of sound.
Their first studio recording album was released
May 2006 by DNA Lab_el, followed by a sold-out
live show (House Of Art, 10.5.06) and it
features 11 tracks written 2002 through 2006. It
also features performances by two exceptional
musicians, Yiorgos Kaloudis on cello and Daniel
Armando on percussion.
