Modrec - B Song (live)
BIO
: Modified Recovery between reason and the
absurd. A maze of compositions, rhythmical soundscapes
and lyricism in a blue contrast. By correcting
disfigurement they unfold polymorphic harmonies.
Their
lyrics translate thoughts, images, colours and
experiences filtered through visual and audio
stimulations. When guitar meets bass and bass meets
percussion, their story-like interpretations and
ecstatic voices embrace you just before take off. Punk
esthetics through an alternative prism.
The band
was formed in June 2000 by Labis Kountourogiannis
(guitar, vox), Kostas Haliotis(drums), Dimitris Aronis (guitar, vocals)
and Vagelis Kostopoulos (bass). The name they started
out with was No Pulse. The band began rehearsing in July
2000 and embarked on their musical trip in an
alternative manner with an emphasis on stoner rock. A
year later after a couple of gigs in Athens Vagelis
leaves the band and Thanasis Mandelas becomes the new
bassist for No Pulse.
Immediately the band gets into the studio to record a
twotrack demo and at the same time the band name is
changed to Modified Recovery. The band however has not
actually performed with this name but with slight
variations of it such as Modify Recovery or Modifying
Recovery mainly because of misinterpretation or simple
print error. By the end of their recording and at the
end of the year 2001 the band radically changes its
sound to a more lyrical and versatile form of punk with
influences from Fugazi and Deus.
In 2002
the band perform in Mad club for the anual festival "The
New Days Of Athens Pop Scene", in X-Bug and in outdoor
festivals (Indie Free etc). In 2003 they start out with
a new recording of a 4-track demo. One of their newly
recorded songs "ThreeArmedMan" is included in "The New
Days Of Athens Pop Scene" compilation. In the same year
the band goes through a few changes, their bassist
Mandelas leaves the band in order to fulfill his
compulsory army duties and Kostis Raisis joins as the
new bassist. Also the name Modified Recovery is finally
shortened to Modrec. Next year in 2004 the band really
gets going after a slight pause playing a series of gigs
at Corto Maltese, AN club and they also participate in
the "Naked on Roller-skates" festival with Misuse,
Bayunda and Sportex. They continue with live
performances at the "Deafntineia 2004" and at the Indie
Free Festival again.
In
January 2005 yet again the band has a change of bass
player, Kostis leaves the band and George Bouldis
becomes the new member. The band performs with the new
lineup at the Gagarin stage for the Civil Cinder Regalia
Festival. They continue with live gigs at the Small
Music Theatre, BIOS (with Relevant Box & Doch An Doris),
After Dark, Indie Free Festival and Septemvriana
Festival. One of their recent performances took place at
the REC club in Patra where the band gained an
enthusiastic review in the "SONIC" Greek music magazine
(December 2005 issue).
