BIO :  The Callas were formed in 2004 and are the music project of the artists Lakis and Aris Ionas. They have released and circulated without any distributor “Don’t Fuck with The Callas” (2004), “Superman Died Yesterday” (2005) and “Trust Lust” (2006). They have exhibited and performed in places such as : Bios (w/ stereo total), AN (w/ Wedding Present), Music Day (Athens voice stage), “O,ti apomenei einai Mellon” (GR: «Ό,τι απομένει είναι Μέλλον») (Parta, Cultural Capital), The Breeder Gallery and many venues in London and Amsterdamn.

 This March they will release, through their own label Out of Tune! their first official album, entitled “DIY or DIE” (produced at Fab Liquid Studios). It will be constituted of 11 songs, it will summarize The Callas’ projects so far with new and old songs in new recordings and is 23 minutes long. Aside from the electric guitar, the instruments used in this production are toys for children.

For the first time they use lyrics in their songs, some of them “borrowed” from Emily Dickinson, T.S. Eliot, James Ellroy. Up to this point, all lyrics sounded like English lyrics, but were improvised while using rock’n’roll clichés like “YEAH!”, “C’MON”, “BABY”,”FUCK” etc…

The Callas have already played live in many venues, and are about to give four concerts at London this April. The members of Callas are also quite active in promoting bands from the greek indie scene as well as publishing VELVET magazine (www.myspace.com/velvetmagazine) and Athens Contemporaty Art Map.
